Darrius Heyward-Bey took this big hit on an attempted touchdown catch, and then hit the ground hard. He was knocked out, and the game was delayed for several minutes as he was placed on a back board and taken off the field on a stretcher. He was able to give a thumbs up on the way off the field. Let’s hope he’s okay.
After that play, the Raiders rallied to come back and win, 34-31, after trailing by 10 points at the start of the fourth quarter.

This rivalry has so many memories that take me back to the 70′s…when George Atkinson took Lynn Swann out of a game with an elbow to the helmet 1976. Jim Plunkett with a huge win in Pittsburgh on a Monday Nighter in 1980 45-34. Franco Harris, Kenny Stabler, Marv Hubbard, Dwight White…alas I digress…
Having seen the shots Tony Romo, Matt Schaub (he lost part of his ear!), and the player above took with little more than a 15 yard penalty I guess it will take a death on the field (like Lion Chuck Hughes in 1972 against the Bears) before the NFL gets its house in order with the real referees and stops with all the substitute teacher behavior.
Thanks for posting Lew!
